Copying: observer repeats what it has seen a model do, often rewarded (extrinsic or intrinsic, animal does not require new behaviour. Individual knows how to do a behaviour but does it in a different situation: ex. Observer did not learn to bury itself (prevented copying) Tradition: preference emerges and then becomes common within a group, thornton and malapert: if one mircat goes to landmark there will always be food. They put second landmark with food but did not train animals to do that. Trained individual went to landmark a and others preferred it too. (social learning: some individuals over time found the other landmark (individual learning, tradition can rise and fall in animals. Bottle nose dolphin some do sponging behaviour (get sponge from sea floor) use sponge to do digging on sea floor: behaviour only happens in offspring when mother does this behaviour.
