Modern terminology: action sequences or natural action sequences . Faps and maps are of the sr stimulus response type, short stimulus, short response. Action sequences are significantly more complex, and they do not necessarily make assumptions about the innateness of the behaviour. Yet they may be highly predictable, r at least parts of the sequences can be, they can be in some specific contexts but not others. Like walking, you don"t really consciously think about walking and putting your foot one in front of another. This is because they allow you to do things without wasting energy to think about it. Squirrels go through the full sequence of burying a nut in a wire cage with no earth available. Elements of the sequence: carrying and site inspection. Pawing and digging looking for a spot. Natural selection made it, that shape in that certain direction means that its not dangerous that its okay.
