January 23, 2015: felis: small domestic cats, lynxes and cougar, neofelis: clouded leopard, pathera: big cats, lions, tigers, leopards/panthers, jaguars, acinonyx: cheetah. Certain group of dogs that have been bred to be like a cheetah. Specialist diet, habitat, home range size etc. Canada lynx only eats hares, very dependent. Bobcat complete opposite to canada lynx as it is abundant and can adapt very easily. Bobcats and canada lynxes are however close, can interbreed. Diet: deer mostly, also hares, rabbits, rodents etc. Slow reproduction cycle: maturation 2-3 years, breeds every 2-3 years, 1-6 young, usually 2, gestation of 88-97 days. If there are cougars in the province, there would be no allocation to do the recovery program because it"s too costly. That"s why they denied there were any cougars around. But then recently the dna testing"s came back and they have to admit that there are cougars in the area. Only found in cape breton because it likes elevation.
