Document Summary
Peripheral nervous system (pns: split into two parts, somatic pns. Innervates internal organs, blood vessels, glands: afferent and efferent axons, afferent carry to, efferent carry front, transport information toward a point, transport info away from a point. The cranial nerves: 12 pairs of nerves, arise from the brain stem. Innervate the head: some part of cns, some part of pns, visceral and somatic. The meninges: cns does not come in direct contact with bone, protected by three membranes meninges, dura mater, outer most covering, tough, inelastic bag, arachnoid membrane, no space between arachnoid and dura mater. Spinal cord runs anterior to posterior: top side of spinal cord is dorsal. Bilateral symmetry: right side of spinal cord and brain are mirror image of let side, most structures come in pairs. Invisible line running down middle of left and right sides: medial structures closer to midline, lateral farther from midline.
