There is a gene on the y chromosome that has the gene to become male. Other than that it is not carrying much information compared to other genes. Altricial- growth in organisms which makes them incapable of moving around on their own soon after birth. Precocial- species where the young are relatively independent and able to move soon after birth. Humans- 9 months of gestation- in a way that is precocial. But after this we come out quite altricial. Looking at hormonal disorders- actually do with receptors not being sensitive to them, not to do with hormone deficiency a lot of the time. Hpa, hpg, hpt- third letter symbolizes the third target area. Steroid hormones- two subcategories, sex hormones and stress hormones (not adrenaline and noradrenaline, but does include corticosteroids eg. cortisol) Protein hormones- produced by most important glands of the endocrine system. Tend to be important for social behaviour and reproductive behaviour- overlap between the two- steroid and protein.
