Some studies suggests that infants slightly younger than 12 mos show this. I. e. , if im looking at something and expressing how i feel theres a connection between myself and the object and children can make taht connection. Infant is first just reacting to the adults emotion. They will internally feel the way the adult feels but theyre not seeing the link, its more of a visceral reaction. Experimental evidence suggests that it depends on age. If the adult looked at one of the objects negatively, the child will back away. If the adult looked at one of the objects positively, the child will play with from both toys both toys. They do not see the connection at 10 mos. Change in sr by 12 mos moses et al. , (2001) toys. The infant will follow the experimenters gage and are presented with both. Relevant means the experimenter that is emoting toward the infant is visible.
