Considering language acquisition in the development of commonsense psychology. Dyadic and triadic interactions are forms of communication, but language boosts the level of sophistication in communication. Gives flexible in what you want to talk about / communicate to others. Starts to emerge with the childs capacity to form mental representations. Can talk about things from simple to more complex abstract things / topics. Because language is symbolic and represents something, you have to be able to imagine what a word represents when you hear it. When drawing a picture youre trying to represent something that exists with a physical image, words depend on if there is agreement between those communicating on what the symbol / topic represents. Has a similar structure in its form of communication. Basically what tomasello is saying is that language is a sophisticated form of joint attention. The difference between joint attention behavious and words.
