Individuals actions depends on how individuals see and evaluate reality surrounding them. People learn how to see and evaluate their reality from others perspectives. People constantly work to interpret behaviours to determine what they all mean . When meanings are not shared, it leads to misunderstanding and conflict. The institution of law effects how the minority group functions. Arrested her father for no reason = causes distrust in the law system. She was attacked by blacks in beginning of film. She seems to underestimate the minority students which illustrates her thoughts on the white race" being superior (ethnocentrism) Job ceiling: cannot achieve the same level of achievement as their white counterparts. The black students believe there is no point to try because no matter how hard they try they cannot get ahead. The notion of good education leading to achieving high status and good jobs is not perceived as something unachievable. Dominant discourse: success in schooling = upward mobility.
