Income equality and health: rising rates of inequalities in canada. There is a relationship between inequalities and health inequalities (income, gender, ethnicity, and race). Concrete social factors in how they influence health. Another argument is that inequality itself, and the experience of living in an unequal society, has consequences on health. Central ideas in symbolic interactionism: the total institution, stigma. These 2 are the most often to be drawn on in the society of health and wellness. Recall: the total institution = institution that controls and defines all aspects + behaviours of an individual (i. e. inmate)"s life. This was based on the study of asylums but other institution (military, prisons) can also be defined. Because they are totalizing, individuals living within these institutions take on behaviour that looks weird to other people reinforces that they are different in the terms of asylums that they are mad.
