For accessing mylab that comes with the textbook: Psychology has many different ways to understand each aspect of the mind. Depression: social, behavioral, mental, neurological-structures, neurochemical, molecular- genetic. 5 things that make psychology challenging: behavior is multiply determined. Individual differences: people affect each other, culture influence. Emie: immerse yourself into the topic to understand it. Doesn"t give you middle ground (ex: distance makes the heart grow fonder vs. out of sight, out of mind ) What is needed: scientific skepticism (it not just saying no for no reason. Evidence is required and its just a pause, a way to step back and rethink something) Rule out rival hypothesis show evidence why you"re right and they are wrong. Falsifiability must be open to being disapproved (you have to be able to see something for what it is and accept that you are wrong. Science is about advancing and learning, not being always right)
