All Students in all sections (1 – 5) will write the Midterm Test on the Monday of Week 7 of the
winter term, in the late afternoon / early evening. The date, time and specific rooms where students
will write the Midterm Test will be announced prior to Week 7.
Scholarly Paper: An Analysis of a Health Topic
The scholarly paper requires the Student to choose a health topic appropriate to the adolescent or to the
older adult (as directed by your Professor) and to research and discuss related nursing literature relevant to
the topic for this population. The Student must submit a new and original scholarly assignment.
Assignments that have been previously submitted for this, or other courses, will not be accepted.
This assignment is to be completed individually.
Assignments submitted after the beginning of class, on the due date, or missing any of the
mandatory requirements will have a 5% penalty for each day late, including weekend days.

Introduction to paper
Identify and define the selected health topic
Briefly explain how the health topic relates to the assigned population (adolescent or older
Clearly outline the purpose and the organization of the body of the paper.
Discussion of topic
Discuss two (2) to three (3) points related to the relevance (e.g. impact, risk factors) of the
health topic on the assigned population (as indicated by the professor).
Discuss two (2) to three (3) nursing interventions that promote health and wellness in
relation to the chosen health topic in the assigned population (as indicated by the
o Ensure there is a link between the relevance and nursing intervention discussion.
Summarize the main points identified in the paper.
References and APA Format:
All peer reviewed articles must be relevant to the topic.
Must use three (3) current (<5 years) peer reviewed articles.
There must be at least one (1) nurse as an author in each peer reviewed article.
A maximum of one (1) RNAO Best Practice Guideline may be included in addition to the three (3)
o Typed, 12 font, organize paper using headings and following APA (6th ed.) format
Clarity of writing:
o Ideas developed in a logical and organized manner.
o Writing clear and focused –fluency of writing, correct grammar and spelling.
o All content areas thoroughly covered.
Length: 800 words maximum (excluding references and title page).
o Assignments will not be read past the 800 word maximum.
Submission Requirements of the Assignment [MANDATORY]:
A hard copy of the paper along with a copy of your complete Turnitin originality report, including a
copy of the turnitin paper (or as directed by the professor), must be submitted.
Copies of the three (3) peer reviewed articles used in your paper must be submitted.
The Personal Ethics Agreement (in the NRS.125 Course Outline) must be attached to the assignment.
**Assignments submitted after the beginning of class or missing any of the above mandatory
requirements will receive a late penalty of 5% per day.
NOTE: Rough notes and drafts should be kept by the Student and may be requested by the Professor.
