EQUIVALENT LOGIC GATES 1. NAND GATES USED AS INVERTERS Method 1: When both inputs of the circuit are tied together it becomes one input and acts like an inverter. Also in the case of circuit 74LS10 all three inputs are tied together to make one input. As an inverter when the A input is HIGH, all inputs tied to it become HIGH and produces a LOW output, and when input is LOW it produces a HIGH output. This complies with the NAND truth table, as all inputs the same produces a HIGH or LOW. Method 2: In this method when one input is permanently connected to HIGH, the other input is then inverted. Or in the case with circuit 74LS10 two inputs are permanently connected to HIGH and one input is then inverted. When the inverted input is set to HIGH its output becomes LOW since a HIGH and LOW input on a NAND circuit truth table shows a LOW output. When the inverted input is set to HIGH it produces a LOW output, as both the permanently set HIGH input and inverted input HIGH produces a LOW output for a NAND gate. When a 1k resistor is attached to the inputs it still provides enough voltage to for it to act as a HIGH for those inputs. 2. NOR GATE USED AS AN INVERTER Method 1: When both inputs of the circuit are tied together it becomes one input and acts like an inverter.
