Presence of a formal full time clergy who are elected and devoted all their time to perform priestly functions. Ordinary people can participate by singing hymns or saying the prayers. Priests are the directors of the ceremonies. Supernatural beings => human-like characteristics such as personality with emotions. Supernatural powers (forces) => in the air. * magic => the manipulation of supernatural forces for intervening in a wide range of human activities; evil. Imitative (or sympathetic magic) => practice of voodoo. Contagious magic => notion that an object that has been in contact with a person retains a magical connection to that person. => believed that a person can be harmed by evil magician if they have a possession of those objects. => strongest magical connection - hair, body parts, etc. * sorcery => use of materials such as potions and medicine.
