Circulatory SystemConsists ofBlood Vessels carries blood from heart to tissues then back to heart Arteries and Art erioles carries blood away from the heart has thick walls composed of elastic and muscular fibres plus supporting tissues arteries branch into arterioles aka small branches of arteries Capillaries small vessels very narrow and microscopic tubesthe wall of the tubes is one cell layer thick connects the arterioles to the venulesexchanges material with the tissues Gases and small molecules glucose exchange across the walls of the CapillariesSphincter muscles surround the entrance of each capillary Veins and Venules takes blood from the capillaries to the heart Venules drains the blood from capillariesthen joins to form a vein Veins has valvesallows blood to flow only towards the heart when they are openprevents backwards flow of blood when they are closed
