BACTERIAL INFECTIONS – Chlamydia Chlamydia  Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacterium that is spread by sexual contact and infects the genital organs of males and females o 2008 over 80 thousand cases of Chlamydia  Transmission: o Sexual contact, Vertical transmission  Diagnoses: o Cervical swab for chlamydia in women  (pap-test) o Men-urine sample (in not symptoms), urethral swab  (if symptoms) Signs & Symptoms  Most of the time… NO SYMPTOMS (asymptomatic)!  Symptoms more common in men  In males there may be thin clear discharge and/or mild discomfort  For women it’s just abnormal discharge  Women there’s no discomfort therefore hard to tell  Extra-g
