Sociopsychological theories of relationships As with it's theories of identity and interaction, sociopsychological theories of relationships have two primary concerns What are the relationships like anyhow do individuals form typologies of relationships to shape their own relationship conduct How do individuals manage information in the process of forming relationships ? While there are several sociopsychological theories of relationships, we'll be concentrating on two Relational schemes: analysis of relationship types - eg, family Social penetration theory: analysis of the development of intimacy Relational schemas Relational schema theory focuses on the description of relationship types Relationships: structured for interaction displaying their own kind of behavior Relationship identity: patterns of interaction between participants that govern ongoing interactions -- different relationship toes exhibit different patterns These types inform how we think about and act in relationships Relational schemas: the general sense we have if what our relationships are like
