CMNS 1115 Lecture Notes - Trait Theory, Social Judgment Theory
Document Summary
In the following weeks we"ll follow littlejohn & foss in examining moments of the communication process through various theoretical traditions. Keep in mind as we do so that. Each theoretical perspective reveals something different about the phenomena of communication. Each perspective contrasts and overlaps with others in the analysis of communication phenomena. Some traditions are only useful for describing certain aspects of communication. None is true in an absolute sense, but merely provides more or less effective ways of examining communication. While psychology of communication has focused on a number of unique phenomena, it is united in a set of basic proportions. What we call knowledge, the truth, certainty, etc. is really a body of information corresponding to various experimental phenomena. These experimental phenomena include things, events, places, occasion, other people, and ourselves. The sum of information we posses about such phenomena defines what we call truth and establishes a basis for our attitudes and behaviors.
