He checks the list to make sure who is drawing for whom. Finally it is about to begin when mrs. hutchinson comes rushing in late. She jokes with mr. summers and then the drawing starts. Each man of the house draws one piece of paper. As the drawing continues mr. adams says that some nearby villages have stopped the lottery. No one looks until mr. summers says they can. Bill hutchinson has picked the paper with the black dot.
