GEOG 1120 Lecture Notes - Hydrosphere
Document Summary
Science studying relationships among natural systems, geographic areas, society, cultural activities, interdependence of all of these over space. Study of how, where, why things are organized in space through time. Earth"s 4 spheres: atmosphere (air), lithosphere (soil, rocks, anything forming earth"s crust), hydrosphere (bodies of water), biosphere (life like floral, fauna, ecosystems) There is no perfect example of a closed system. System feedback: positive (much like a snowball effect of an amplifier) or negative feedback (slowing the response of the function of a system) Map scale: basis for determining size and distance on the earth"s surface, distance on map: distance in real world. 4 3 2 1 0 -> 4 m -> 8. Measurements must be equal on both sides, eg: Usually a written scale/representative fraction paired with a graphic scale under a map. 1/25 000 is a greater fraction than 1/100 000 as a map scale.
