Document Summary

Policy lessons reg" unwanted immigration are negative ones . No evidence that trippling border enforcement resources have. By contrast, significant consequences are in abundance. And how many of these policies/incentives actually generate illegaility (as opposed to deter it?) lack of consensus in american public in regards to attitudes towards immigrants & levels of immigration. Contradictory views: americans polled to believe that immigrants drive down wages and compete with domestic workers (substitutes) but at the same time they perceive immigrants as complements to the economy. More on american attitudes towards immigration: immigration is not a salient issue for the average american. Anti-immigration in the us: broad but not very. Supply side only strategy fails to deter unwanted migrants from. Mexico/other 3rd world countries and further entrenches unauthorised workers in the us labour force. Ironies of us case: explosive growth of unauthorised migration occurred at the same time that us spending on regulating migration increased.
