Rock Cycle and Weathering – Chapter 5
There needs to be energy to break down igneous rock into sediment
oWater velocity
oWind
Sediments will move from a high energy environment to lower energy
environments (carried by water)
The Sediment finds itself in sedimentary environments (a Delta) and the layers of
sediment builds up in layers
oThe heat of the sun and the earth heats up the water and it evaporates,
leaving only the sedimentary rock behind
oSmaller sediments are able to move farther in water because they are
lighter
oInterstitial area has water, and when it evaporates, the sand becomes
more compressed and it settles, crystals fill the interstitial area, it solidifies,
and it stays together
oThis builds up in layers and makes sedimentary rocks
