The rise of stalin = the second revolution. At beginning of 1924, lenin died and there was a leadership struggle. Stalin won and came into power after lenin"s death. Under lenin, he believed in the quality of reward => if you are a member of the authority, people will look up to you and a role model. In stalin"s leadership, there was higher hierarchy. Lenin = political control, stalin = economic control. Under stalin, people"s relationships with land will be altered. Over the course of economic transformation, 9 million people were re-located. Russia will become an economic power house. Took stalin 5-6 years to come in power by letting his rivals take down each other, a very patient man. He was the secretary of the head of communists party (sign people/decide members). First rival: trotsky (saved the day in the civil war and lenin chose him as his heir).
