Adolescent Intercourse  Sociologist Ira Reiss (1960) identified four kinds of standards for adolescent sexual behavior o Abstinence: intercourse outside of marriage is considered wrong for both males and females, regardless of the circumstances o Permissiveness with affection: intercourse is permissible for both males and females if it occurs in the context of a stable relationship that involves love, commitment, or being engaged o Permissiveness without affection: intercourse is permissible for both males and females, regardless of emotional commitment, simply on the basis of physical attraction o Double standard: intercourse outside of marriage is acceptable for males but is not acceptable for females.  Orthodox – holds regardless of the couple’s relationship  Transitional – sex is considered acceptable for the wo
