Chapter 2: drug use as a social problem. Cadum- canadian alcohol and drug use monitoring statistics. Cadum"s definition of harm: harms in any of the following 8 areas. Physical heath - friendships -social life - financial position. Home life -marriage -studies -employment opportunities -legal problems. What the user did while on the drug. Behavioural: "intoxication" impairs the actions of drug user and increases the danger to themselves. Physiocoalogical: overdose that causes the user to stop breathing. Physiological: lots of health problem ex: heart disease, lung cancer, cirrhosis. Data collecting system on drug related death and emergency room visits. Reports on improper use of legal prescription and over the counter drugs as will as illicit drugs. Alcohol is only reported in combination with other drugs. Doesn"t tell us how dangerous a drug is. Doesn"t consider relative danger vs total impact of drug. Doesn"t give us number of users vs number of reported problems.
