Document Summary

Biology of the mind & conciousness/the track mind. Central nervous system (cns) brain + spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system (pns) basically everything else ( nerves ) Sympathetic arousing, fight or flight, pupils dilate, hr + bp increase, & releases norepinephrine. Parasympathetic calming, rest and digest, pupils constrict, hr + bp decrease, & releases acetylcholine. *** cns = neurons can(cid:859)t be replaced + plasticity = new connections *** Neurons sense changes in the environment and communicate signals to other cells to command a response. There are over 100 billion neurons in out nervous system. Glial cells there are 10 50x more glial cells than neurons. They provide structure, deliver nutrients, control waste elimination, form myelin, & also creates the blood barrier which furthermore protects our brains from toxic chemicals. Dendrites detect signals from other neurons and carry signals to the cell body. Cell bod/soma has nucleus and mitochondria; sums excitatory vs inhibitory messages in order for cell to fire.
