Principles of Reinforcement
Reinforcer- any event that increases the frequency of the preceeding event
*Reinforcers always strengthen behavior!
BF Skinner: All behavior is followed by a consequence, and the nature of that
consequence modifies the organisms tendency to repeat the behavior in the
Operant Chamber Skinner box: soundproof chamber with a bar or key that an animal presses or
pecks to release a food or water reward
Contains a device to record responses.
To be effective, rewards must be immediate
Continuous- every time behavior occurs
Partial- not every time behavior occurs, l
