Kinship boundaries 2. housing and residential proximity -patriocal – live with parents of groom (most common) -matrilocal – live with parents of bride -bilocal – live with both -neolocal – live on own away from parents -still tends to be in close geographical proximity to parents and siblings 3. obligations to help -kinkeeper – usually female – keep members of family in touch with one another -share services and gifts -assist in times of need 4. affection and primary relationships -affection – being emotionally close (to km) -women more affectionate than men (expressed) -child-parent affection increases with age - a theory provides a framework of ideas that can be used to answer questions about the world - theories can be used singly or in combination with other theories.
