Kidneys spend more energy per day than your heart. Primary function is to make red blood cells - living about 128 days. 2nd is organ fat - can affect the kidneys. 3rd is bone marrow fat - we use this to identify condition of animals. You can take a femur and cut it in half and can see what the marrow fat looks like. Poor - red and runny - no more fat just the cells. Fat gives 2. 25 - 2. 50x more energy than same amount of sugar. Initial weight loss until the digestive system starts working about a week after. This is when brown fat works to supply the baby with energy.
