Fruit types: are usually classified as simple, multiple or aggregate, according to the arrangement of the carpals from which the develop simple fruit: fruits develop from one carpal or several united carpals. Soft & fleshy: there are three main types of fleshy fruits berry, drupe, pome. Berry type: the inner coat is fleshy ex: tomato, dates, grapes. Drupe type: there are one to several carpals, but each contain only a single seed. The inner coat of the fruit is stony and usually tightly adhered to the seed ex: peach, cherry, olive and plums. Pome type: is derived from a compound inferior ovary, in which the fleshy portion comes from enlarged base of the perianth ex: apples and pears.
