Literary devices: simile- a comparison that states one thing is like another thing. Like or as : metaphor- a comparison that states one thing is another thing or states that something is happening when it is not really happening. Ex: it"s raining cat and dogs , you snake: personi cation- giving an object a human characteristic. Ex: i am the one who has been murdered by your cruelty to me and cars dance across the icy road: alliteration- the repetition of a constant sound at the beginning of a word. Ex: safe within my womb and i am like romeo: hyperbole- an obvious and unrealistic exaggeration. It is usually very descriptive (detailed): oxymoron- a phrase in which contradictory words appear side by side. Ex: wise fool: tone- the attitude a writer expresses toward his/her subject. Excited: mood- the feeling created in the reader by literary work or passage.
