After some key terms are defined, two specific topics in the study of languages will be presented: an assessment of one language family (indo-european) and an overview of languages in one continent (africa). People, or groups of people, are often described in terms of culture or in belonging to a specific cultural group. There are many ways of considering culture", here is one approach. Culture can be defined as the sum total of knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and habitual behaviour patterns that are shared and transmitted by members" of a group. In other words, common characteristics, ways of doing things and approaches to life may unite people enough so as to be considered part of a cultural group". Culture is defined and shaped in many ways and can be a function of language, religion, ethnicity, age, sexual identities, economic behavior, and lifestyle.
