Cosmological: explain how the world was formed and how human beings came to be. Purpose: situates us in our world and influences our view of the world. They are typically found in oral tradition but can also be written down (symbolic narrative vs. historical narrative) Types of creation stories: ex nihilo- out of nothing, chaos- order out of disorder, world parent- splitting of primeval entity, emergence- from another world. How the tribal community might ecologically integrate into the place they lived, and how a direct relationship and the natural world could be established and maintained . Ensoulment" of all beings and the earth leads to a sense of responsibility to the land and all the living things. Geopsyche- when a group of people live in a particular place for a long time. In the beginning there was only darkness, because there was not yet light. Thought itself, in our creation story, is what creates everything .
