The spirit is believed to be one of four aspects to human beings along with mind, Spirituality is fundamental to the anishinaabe worldview body, and heart. In the anishinaabe belief system all living things have a spirit. There is a spiritual plane that co-exists with the physical world along with spirit helpers who guide and watch over us. Like in the creation story when the heartbeat pulsed out everything happens in a circular fashion seasons, life cycle. The circle has been used to illustrate various teachings and a well-known representation is the medicine wheel. The medicine wheel is divided into four quadrants with each quadrant representing a direction with related teachings. We are all relatives because we have the same mother. People were not only shaped by the land, but were also created from the land. Living in harmony with creation: two primal energies male/female; light and darkness; individuality and wholeness, harmony and balance.
