By the year 2030, 70 million americans will transition into the oldest-old category. Healthspan: total years a person remains in excellent health. New gerontology: addresses areas beyond age-related diseases and their prevention to recognize successful aging requires maintenance of enhanced physiologic function and physical fitness.
