PSYC-1105EL Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Fixed Action Pattern, Chevrolet Van, Immunosuppression
Document Summary
Operant conditioning : deals with punishment and reward to modify behavior. Giving candy for reward, taking something away for punishment. A positive stimuli gives a positive response, a negative stimuli gives a negative response. People don"t know how what to do when they do not get the response they anticipated. It takes about 10 times before you actually learn something. Reinforcement : a consequence that will strengthen an organisms behavior. Positive punishment : application of something negative following behaviour that is frowned upon (decrease behaviour) Negative punishment : removal of something you enjoy/love. A reinforcement schedule will display when you respond. Fixed ratio schedule : every time something is done the response will always occur after a fixed number, a reward is given (5 times and reward is given) Variable schedule : the response is unpredictable, there is no saying what the exact number is but there is an average response rate, you cannot predict when something will occur.
