Cults and new religious movements january 6, 2015. 3 groups of undergraduates read indoctrination cases (moonies, marines, Was there brain washing 71% of moonies said yes, 44% of marines said yes, Moonies: were less happy, intelligent, responsible, and likely coerced. 82% of students who were surveyed on the moonies had never talked, known, or been a cult member. 92% of them were basing opinions off media reports. Distraught relatives of young adults who joined the movements, or critical ex-members. Full-time deprogrammers or exit councillors to remove people from the movement. These groups would take legal action against cults, lobby governments to enact laws against cults. Cults are excessively zealous and committed to its leader. Group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status some recognize other religions but claim they are special and being a part of it gives a higher status. Group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality people in the group vs people who are not.
