Document Summary
To compare one sample or population to another sample or population and see if they are the same or they are different. We need to be able to calculate the mean of the samples. If there is a difference in the means we must decide if it is due to chance or due to a real difference in the samples. We (cid:374)eed so(cid:373)e (cid:449)ay to defi(cid:374)e (cid:862)(cid:272)ha(cid:374)(cid:272)e(cid:863) as a (cid:374)u(cid:373)(cid:271)er. We need to determine how accurately our sample reflects the population it was taken from. Start with looking at one score and see how to determine where it is relative to other scores in the population. Introduce the concept of the normal distribution. Use a table that allows you to convert your score into a probability (as long as it came from a normal distribution. Introduce the concept of distribution of sample means. Show how any distribution of sample means is automatically a normal distribution.
