A statistical method that uses sample data to evaluate a hypothesis about a population parameter. Compare the data you collected with the predictions the hypothesis made. Questions to answer before we go trick or treating. What the heck is a null hypothesis (ho) How do we figure out what the null hypothesis (ho) is from the research hypothesis/ States that in the general population there is no change, no difference, or no relationship. In the context of an experiment the treatment will have no effect on the dependent variable of the population. Test statistic determines the probability of getting such data if the h0 is correct. Reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis. The sample values you are unlikely to get if the null hypothesis is true. Or are likely to get if the alternative hypothesis is true. Type i error - rejecting the null hypothesis when you should have failed to reject the null hypothesis.
