ANTH-101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Canine Tooth, Parabolic Arch, Dental Arch
Document Summary
Hominins are group together with humans because habitual bipedalism is in both. Mosaic evolution: different traits appear at different points in eolution evolution. Michael day suggests that the greater stamina bipedal hominins would have. Genus homo more recent than others such as austrapithlocus. Australopiths: an informal name used to refer to all hominins that appeared. As grasslands increased and forestry disappears, bipedalism arises with apes spending more time on the ground (selective pressure). Apes and humans together classified as hominoids; then separate out humans and bipedal ancestors, together classified as hominins before the genus homo sets of bones as a process not an event. Bipedalism requires upright posture, which apes were already capable of (ie in trees) Ardi was a nearly complete bipedal skeleton, despite not living in a grasslands area engaged in bipedalism. Also provides evidence that the term savanna can include an array of environments (and proportions of trees to grass)
