Document Summary
Civilization: talking about a group of people that are essentially urbanized, at least in part. A form of culture, characterized by cities, specialized workers, complex institutions, record keeping and advanced technology. To be a civilization, society must have a majority of these: We cannot read the script found from the ancient indian civilization. We only have their writing on stamp seals from the indus valley cities. There was a suggestion at one time that there was a connection between the script of this civilization and ancient mesopotamia. The ruins at mohenjo-daro is very clearly pre-planned and built according to some pre- existing guideline. Daro was once the largest city in the world. The house sizes are remarkably uniform; this suggests there was not a large disparity between social classes. Harappa was laid out in very much the same sort of grid pattern as mohenjo-daro. Why did they think that this was important: it"s just part of their culture.
