To understand the current situation in russia, it is important to first examine how the country has managed to adapt to numerous sanctions imposed by the united states and other countries. For many countries, the barriers created by foreign sanctions would have devastating consequences economically, yet russia has been able to sustain itself thanks to a series of adaptations. For instance, the creation of a government-run sovereign wealth fund has helped russia encourage foreign investment in several industries, including agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, retail, and real estate (ellyatt, 2017). According to russian officials, long term strategic partnerships have generated over billion of foreign investment capital over the last few years (ellyatt, 2017).
