Iron century: 1550-1660 named by henry after everything that had affected europe, including the black death. The strong modern state known as absolutism was created as a result of the iron century. It"s called absolutism because the leader of a country has the absolute power. 1500s: by the end of the 17th century, there is a recovery and warming trend. The 4 horseman of the apocalypse: famine, plague, war, and death itself. Famine: with global cooling makes it much more difficult to farm which also led to class conflict; peasant revolts. The nobility will survive one way or another, but the peasant families will be malnourished and on the verge of starvation to aggravate class conflict. Plague: the black death first hit in 1348 and would recur right through and into the end of the 17th century. The mediterranean was hit the hardest, so other states could take advantage and prosper through trade while they were weak.
