HIST-281 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Nikita Khrushchev
Document Summary
Mao"s plans for china: a 5 year plan from 1953-58 inspired by the soviet model by stalin with emphasis on heavy industry. Mao is a supporter of stalin in the 20s and 30s, going to the soviet union and reads. Stalin finds his success and changes russia significantly. Does not work out as much as mao expected: challenges of the soviet model after 1956. Russia was still industrialized agriculturally and educationally than china was before. China is not in the same place with the same infrastructure, people, or economy as the soviet union. Wants to also promote his own view for revolution instead of standing in stalin"s shadow. The chinese begin to pull away from the soviet model eventually and think of what they should realistically do: mao"s visions of marxism within china. Chinese marxists wish to learn from the soviets: desires to match agricultural productions with increases in production in steel, electricity, and coal.
