Metabolism is influenced by heredity, behaviour, weight loss or gain, and exercise. Hormones play a role in the accumulation of body fat, particularly in women during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. When existing fat cells are filled, the body makes more, thereby increasing its ability to store fat. Eating calorie-dense foods contribute to our overweight and obese society. Physical activity most adults are inactive throughout the day.
