PSYC-105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Gordon Allport, Factor Analysis, Observational Learning
Document Summary
The appearance of a personality is due to past learning history. Personality isn"t a thing and what you"ve learned from other people; being reinforced to do things. Behavioral determinism: whether or not you were encouraged in the past, no belief in free will. The environment drives the unconscious: unaware of all the parts of the environment that encouraged you, your mother encouraging you. Social learning theories: how we perceive our environment drives our behavior, how we think about our environment. Reciprocal determinism: you influence your environment which influences you: taking a japanese course and teaching your friends which influence them to take a class and encourages you to continue. Observational learning: we learn by watching other people. Internal: believing you control outcomes: external: believing some other force controls outcomes. Scientific examination: behaviorism: if thoughts were unnecessary, why did humans evolve to be able to think, we know this is false because we"re aware that we think.
