Statistical rarity: around 10% of the population any given time is currently experiencing a mental disorder. It"s rare: you have to experience all of these things to be defined. Has to be something a small proportion of what the population experiences. Some cases where an individual will say they aren"t the issue but it"s everything else. Are you being impacted on going to school, work, or social life: separates someone from being sad to clinical depression. Societal/cultural disproval: have to be acting in a way that society would say is abnormal. Biological dysfunction: some disorders are more biological than others. Personally disorders; schizophrenia which is very much based on genetics. Phobias has very little biological determination which is heavily based on your environment. Demonic model: mental disorders are due to evil spirits: demons/exorcisms, witches, moon and stars, trephining is taking a human skull and puncturing a hole on it to release the demons.
