Document Summary

Stimulus control: behaviour is reliably controlled by the sds that precede it. Light: key peck food (sd: r sr) The antecedent light is the control for the key pecking behaviour. Habits occur within strong stimulus control context. To change habits, change the environment in which the stimulus control is strong, try to change the context of the stimulus control or change the stimulus so that it produces a different behaviour. Time of day can also act as a stimulus control. Guthrie: psychologist that thought the real response is controlled more by the preceding stimulus than the consequence. In his perspective, he advised to deliberately practice a behaviour repeatedly so that the cues of the setting provide the stimulus that will produce the behaviour. During the day, set an alarm and get into bed, immediately get up when the alarm goes off. To study more efficiently, associate cues that will make studying easier. Specific place, specific time, specific music, specific clothes.
