High comorbidity of anxiety disorders (ocd, bipolar, major depression, social phobias, substance abuse) Evolutionary explanation for activity anorexia: in an earlier time one had to travel long distances for food. Previously activity anorexia was adaptive: supress eating temporarily to move to a different area. And, women may be more likely, because when encountering a new group, she is less likely to be attacked/seen as a threat. People with anorexia show brain change longitudinally: brain abnormalities in the right anterior cingulate cortex predicts relapse. Integration of cognitions and emotions, and reward based learning occur in this area. But again is this a cause of anorexia or consequence of starvation. Some anorexics experience hunger, but feel good by controlling intake.
