Document Summary
Teenagers working part time slightly more likely to report delinquency contrary to greenbergs. Maturational reform: the observation that criminal activity tends to decrease with age. Decreasing physical ability, increase in lack of detection, and a system favouring the very old or young also used to explain. Social position of youth is important: a time of transition which creates tension and conflict (not old enough to partake in adult activities/marry/work, but expected to act better than a child) As young adults become more integrated social conformity is valued more: they now have possessions to be harmed by crime; material goods accumulate and conformity becomes valuable. Greenberg: the age segregation is most obvious in north america where youth they are vulnerable to high expctations and are excluded from adult activities. In addition youth culture is expensive and it is more difficult for youth to find work to finance their social activities so theft becomes a source of income.
