BIOLOGY LECTURE 12:
NEMATODS (ROUNDWORMS) AND ANNELIDS
Embryonic Development: zygote and multicellular organism rising from coat
-Specialization of gut region
-Completed digestive tract (mouth and anus)
-Has a crop (expanded part of the digestive tract used for storage)
-Gizzard (grinding down materials)
-Specialization ( ex: cows 4 parts of stomach, continuous structure, rumen
digestion)
-Rabbit (ex: Cecum – sorting of particles) ex: eating their poop for it to go back a
second time (fun fact)!!!!!
-Sequential food processing
-Continuous operation
-LOOK AT SLIDE FOR PICS
How does a complete digestive tract develop (in Bilateria)?
-Mensenchymal: mesoderm tissue, moving up and making a clear achentaron*
SLIDE
Digestive Tract:
1. Protostomes (1st is mouth)
-Blastospore: mouth
-New opening – anus
2. Deuterostomes (2nd is mouth)
-Blastospore: anus
-New opening: mouth
Body Cavities:
1. Coelomate (true cavity)
-Enclosed by mesoderm lines the entire cavity “peritoneum”
-There to isolate the organs, space for circulation and excretion
2. Pseudocoelomate (false coelom)
